If you’ve ever played Minecraft Single player, you’ve at one point likely felt… off… In today’s video I’ll be answered the question nobody asked: “Why is Minecraft so Terrifying?” We’re doing spooky month earlier this year, and considering how long this took me to make, we probably won’t be doing anything like this for Halloween! I hope you enjoyed the video, and remember to like and subscribe!

01.03.2023i never realised people felt this way?? like sure i've been spooked in a singleplayer world when seeing things move in of the corner of my eye, but it never gets to me and i just continue what i was doing. i like that sometimes there's no music, because i love the sound of it fading into the silence. it's nostalgic and makes me feel peaceful! and the silence helps me concentrate and get into the zone 🙂
it's really sad that this is stopping people from enjoying the game, i'm sorry if this effects you! although ambient sounds for each biome would be cool, i think the mod in this video feels a little too complex? if that makes sense??

01.03.2023i honestly struggle with watching these videos (where the person just talks on and on) but this one really was satisfying to experience!! All your points were well thought out and it was just great.
the scariest part to me is when your exploring caves, and theres no mobs around and you hear a sudden PANG, its horrifying-

28.02.2023For me it's darkness. No matter how you build your base, develop your village and remake them into large kingdom, flying the sky freely to see the word, a dark corner of the caves or ravine even a slight bump in your base can trap your mind into the primitive fear which immediately links with every "scary" games to childhood memories

28.02.2023I actually play Lofi from the C418 music for the game. Illl try to play without it to feel the horror. The scariest things that happen are when im in the Nether and when Cave sounds play. I tihnk if I take out the music, itl bee more creepy. I actually like how Minecraft is. I personally like how empty minecraft is. I dont know why but I dont want to play it like that but at t he same time I thing its quite awesome.

Its an interesting mixed bag. I enjoy the silence and the vastness. It tells me when I'm finished with something, I can go on and find a new place, starting over again in a whole new part of the world. On the other hand….it does feel lonely. Not so much eerie…I'm used to seeing random things out the corners of my eyes, you learn not to look at them or pretend you don't notice them after a while. Though cave sounds still scare me, and minecraft actually showed me what clautstrophobia feels like when you can't find the way back up after wandering down below for a long time. No matter how nicely you tried to line your path back. But the actual, human interaction we crave, that's absent in single player. Sometimes this break from people is welcome, but other times…
its a strange thing. And in a way, as much as I would like to hear more normal sounds, there something about the silence that I find I appreciate. Its….introspective. Sure it can lead to an existential crisis if you delve too deep into the abyss, but its also just a passive, quiet time to do whatever suits you, as your thoughts drift.
It is what it is, some good and some bad. At least in the meantime there are mods for those who want the natural ambiance. Peace <3

27.02.2023I get your point, but disagree. FIrst of all I felt like you assumed that many people shared your point of view, but you didn't convince me that you're not the only one thinking this. Secondly, I simply don't agree that this game needs more ambient sounds. There are quite a lot of sounds already so it's not silent, and the lack of ambient sound levels similar to real life allows me to continue to remember that it is in fact a game. The lack of stimuli calms me down when I'm stressed. What always makes me feel like it's a horror game is that they have a split second equivalent for many mobs. From a distance sugar cane or cactus can look like a creeper. Poppy's at night look like spider eyes And so on.

27.02.2023I rarely play with the game audio on. I almost always have YouTube up playing either a song, or some long documentary on aviation or nuclear physics. The overworld is so devoid of ambiance, it's maddening. They really need an ambiance update. In the event there is someone who likes the lack of ambience (nothing bad if you do), there should be an in-game toggle for it.

26.02.2023At this time i write this comment i didn't watched the video to end. In my option minecraft is scary because when you play a single player game it is really quit. The scary thing is not only that it's quit it's the night, when it's night in minecraft i feel uncomfortable, I really don't know why.. I think its because they're so many trees and at night they are zombies, skeletons, endermans, creeper and spiders. I'm scared at night in minecraft tbh because when someone attack me I always Get shocked for a moment. I think the reason is that the game is so quit you really hear nothing just music (if you have it on) and sounds of monsters or mobs. And they're so many theories like herobrien or the moon And so on. The theories make the game more scarier and if you see how the game was at the start. At the start of the game there were only trees, grass, stone, mobs and you. But I love the game because it's so interesting and Mysterious and do you know that endermans talk? They say some words when they are in your side. I don't knoe anymore what they say, but it's kinda scary tbh. I'm not that scared when I watch horror movies or something. But when you are alone in your room it's dark outside you don't have your light on and you're playing alone minecraft.. Everything is quit You are so engrossed in the game after a certain while and you don't really realize what's happening in reality. It's like a dream, because its so quit, or when you are in mines or gaves its so dark.. And you just see stone and monsters, maybe something like cole, iron, redstone, gold, emeralds or diamonds. It can be woods there too but mines are not very often in gaves. The thing is that the gaves are very pretty in the game today, and that prettiness is so scary too. Its like in a dream.. Its like your body is not real and everything is fake.. It's like life is a dream, or is not real.. Or your just dead. For me minecraft is such a lonely game. Its like a deadly silence.. One lf the scariest things is the nether and end. The nether because of the Gast's and other of these mobs. The Gast's are very creepy tbh. The end because its just quit and its just a world in the air. A world in nothing its like a world in the black Hole, And you were just dragged into it. And in the nether you have such scray sounds in the different bioms. I can't discripe these sounds. You also often have illusions in minecraft you see things that are actually not there.

26.02.2023i once started a new survival world cause i had new ideas for building, so i was pretty excited. when i got in, it was all normal, i started to collect many materials like wood and sugar canes, until i get into a cave for mining some stone and coal. that's when i freezed. i just started the game, and the cave had a torch. a single torch. it wasn't a mine, it was a random cave, and it was a brand new world. idk what it was, maybe a bug or something, but it scared me.

24.02.2023not exactly the point of the video, but close. i remember when my friend told me about herobrine while we were at school. id usually play minecraft when i got home, but for almost 2 weeks i was too afraid to play. I was always sensitive, easily scared, gullible, and the fact that minecraft was already eerie at times (all the points in the video and in the comments) PLUS the fact that there actually CAN be something out there, made me terrifyed of it for a while. scared in case i might find signs of him or be jumpscared by him.
after a long time, i found out he never actually existed, and was genuinely sad. i still am, to this day. i miss the hype/fear(?). just having something fun and interesting to be spooked of.
those were the days xD

24.02.2023I find strip mining scary for some reason. I actually prefer to go caving. With strip mining when I get bored I’ll turn around and have to walk all the way back to the beginning and just before I turn back I always get this feeling that someone will be standing at the beginning of my tunnel. One time as well I was strip mining, my pickaxe broke, I went back up to my base to get a new one and when I came back there was a hole next to where I had broken my pickaxe. Like off to the side. Just two blocks were suddenly missing. It was strange because I didn’t do that, I was mining straight not off to the side. Anyways I know it was a glitch but it freaked me out and I quit for the night.

24.02.2023Playing vanilla Minecraft single player is really scary because of how lonely you will feel especially at night and during mining it just feels so empty. It's not like other games where something is constantly happening or you are required to do it. But trapping villagers in a box next to my house really helps a lot to reduce this loneliness because something is constantly happening.

24.02.2023They should add a next big update that’ll add these ambient sounds like birds chirping and owls and what not. And to compliment that is to add new animals that make those sounds to create more depth and immersion. All in the end solving the issue. Hopefully they at some point make this happen

24.02.2023I remember when I was fairly new to Minecraft I was playing the game, loaded in, started getting wood and killing chicken and cows, then started building a base, it had all the music and animal noises, and when night fell it was terrifying but I just casually killed zombies, his from skeletons and was dodging creeper explosions, and eventually I suited myself in, I kept playing for a few weeks and I had my base sorted out, had iron armour and weapons and was casually tending to my farm when I noticed something off putting, I stopped for a brief moment to look around and notice nothing else was there, no creeper trying to run up on me, no zombies or skeletons seeking shelter under the trees, no other mobs except my farm animals, and it was just so dry and dense, suddenly I just felt this slight fear in me that I was being watched, I started to look around and just thought someone was just staring at me, It quickly escalated when I thought little bits of material in my house were going missing, I started counting my animals to see if any had started to die and I was just at this level of anxiety where at one point I got so scared I started to look around my room because I genuinely thought someone was behind me but nope it was just pure emptyness, and I then learnt about a study of human when I was in school that scientist believe we have a six scent that helped us survive, because back then it was kill or be killed, and there were predators such as Saber tooth's or dire wolves that us humans had to co exist with and we adapted to having a scent where our body knows we are being watched, that goosebump, the hair sticking up on your arms and leg, that fight, flight and freeze mode we get, that's our six scent, and our body knows when to pick up that extra scent, and there is a thing for people who may have been attacked by predators like mountain lions, bears or any other predator that when they were hiking they eventually felt a moment of silence where the environment around them went dead silent, they couldn't hear the birds chirping, the leaves stopped rustling, and everything went quiet before they were attacked, and I think for Minecraft that once you settle in and everything begins to go to calm and quiet, our body tenses up and we start to gain back that six scent that causes us to panic ( sorry if i took to long )
