This one didn’t age well. It was so fresh and atmospheric when it came out. But actually story is told literally straight forward by dev in CHAT. This is even lazily then searching for notes. Story is a bit naive. Despite all that, this game gave birth to new sub genre, so it is great anyway.
This reminds me of the old Unreal game series servers. Nobody plays the original Unreal game online, but all the servers are still listed and still technically "active" but when the games time out, there are set to rotate the different maps as if players were still there. In the past 10 years, I've only encountered two other players. It's freaky, because these servers are run by public online websites as their hosts, but 90% of the websites are from the late 90's and are no longer active. How do they still cycle the matches? 😳😳
This game is stupid. The game is not online but you would pretend to play a online game, and pretend to have conversation with the dev, and pretend to see a ghost player.
I have to agree with the other comments: the premise is really interesting, but everything about the game dev keeping the soul of his wife in the game is just stupid… From 5:22 onwards is just retarded.
I think the only reason this gave me a weird vibe was the amount of times as a kid I would join a unreal ctf server and do this same thing… Wait for someone to join and just keep caping the flag while I wait
I remember playing phantasy star online on dreamcast back in the day like in 2006 as a kid playing offline being scared someone would appear online ,😅😆
So something similar happened to me a few years back. I was playing an old game called Unreal online and the servers are still active somehow. On deathmatch mode online, there are no "bots" to kill, only other human players in the server who have joined. And if there are no other players, you have nothing to do but walk around aimlessly like in this video until someone joins (which almost never happens because the game is over 20 years old and little to nobody plays it anymore). One time, I got the notification that someone had joined the game and I got excited to play with them. However, after walking around the whole map, I never found them. Even after several minutes of searching. The game log said they were there, even gave their IP address, and that they were active, but I never found them. I was able to find the web link that automatically hosts the server (still running 20 years later) and I sent an email to the admin address listed and asked what was up. After several months I got an email back from the guy and he said that I was the only logged player that had been on in 2 years. I never thought much of it until I saw this video. Creepy!
This could just end when the second time the player encountered the ghost (the BEHIND YOU one), and it won't compromise any suspense or horror of the game.
